Description
-
This half armor crossbow is made of brown fruit wood and has a cheek piece on the left side. The top is fully covered in bone and engraved with scrollwork, scales, and masks around the reinforcing rivet where the prod meets the stock, nut, piercing channel, and the base. The damaged number “16 9 [sic],” possibly the year it was made, is engraved in front of the groove for the bolt rest. Behind the nut, a goblet is depicted, flanked by two birds. The underside of the stock is inlaid with bone engraved with the same decoration. Both sides are framed by upper and lower strips of bone. An unadorned butt cap closes the rear of the stock; one corner is missing.
The simple four-axle nut lock is missing the cone spindle, the nut thread, and the adjusting screw for the striker. The nut has no installation. The bolt rest is missing; only a piece of dark green horn remains of the bolt holder.
The binding is covered with remnants of brown and red paint. The stirrup and the binding block are firmly bound, and the bare prod is additionally wrapped in parchment.
Numerous hammer marks and grooves cover the surface of the prod. A mark in the shape of a quartered circle surrounded by jagged points is struck on the right belly of the prod. The string is missing.
