Description

This crossbow has a steel prod which attaches to the stock with bindings. The bowstring is missing. The bindings are described as having traces of green waterproofing and gold flecks.
The tip of the stock is missing its bolt rest. The stock is made of plum wood. It bulges around the catch area before tapering to a plain straight form. The top and bottom of the stock are covered with decorative bone plates, carved with scrollwork. The sides depict half a crowned eagle made of bone inlay. On the right side it appears to be holding a scepter and on the left side it appears to be holding a sword. Farther down both sides of the stock, there are two small images with scrollwork frames depicting reclining people, all in bone inlay. On the right side, one of the figures holds a bird. On the left side, one of them holds a drink. On the sides of the stock, the backdrop has delicate scrollwork. However, near the very end of the stock, the sides are undecorated. The lengthwise edges of the stock are decorated with strips of carved bone with repeating patterns involving scrollwork, flowers, and geometric designs. The butt has a cap of dark horn.
The nut is secured to the stock with a nussfaden (nut thread). The lock system is a four-axle one. The steel parts are corroded.
