Description
-
This Flemish target crossbow is the third in a series of four Medieval styled crossbow replicas, dated to around the 19th or 20th centuries. It possesses a wooden crossbow fitted with a metal plate on the upper surface of the stock and a groove that is hollowed out for the crossbow bolt. Mounted on the fore end of the stock is a metal stirrup used to aid in spanning the crossbow. On top of the stock’s front end is likely a metal foresight. The crossbow also features a wooden rest that extends from the middle of the crossbow’s underside and curves inwards toward the stock. The trigger mechanism is a rolling nut, and above the nut is a metal bolt clip. The trigger is made of metal. The butt of the stock widens toward the end and is fitted with a metal plate that curves outward on two pointed ends. The prod of the crossbow is made of wood and passes through the stock. Both sides of the stock are fitted with metal plates where the prod crosses through.
