Description
-
This Flemish target crossbow is part of a series of four Medieval styled crossbow replicas, dated to around the 19th or 20th centuries. It features a wooden stock with decorations of vine-like scrolling patterns along its sides. Along the bottom of the crossbow, in its middle and fore end, are carved out decorative patterns. Mounted to the front of the crossbow stock is a metal stirrup used to assist the crossbowman in spanning the weapon. The butt of the stock is curved inwards. The trigger mechanism and handles are made of metal. The prod of the crossbow is also made of wood and runs through the upper middle section of the stock. There are metal plates on either side where the prod and the stock meet at the cross-section. The string is intact.
