Description
-
This bow is an example of a noble’s sporting bow from the mid-18th century as it is decorated with engraved brass and ivory. The wooden stock is also carved demonstrating a design in the Rococo style with the stock carved into curls and wave like shapes. This crossbow was used for hunting and target shooting as its approximate creation was after crossbows declined in popularity in the end of the 15th century. However
crossbows such as this one still had a ceremonial purpose for nobles as hunting with a crossbow was a spectated sport including visiting diplomats.
